BREAKING: Skysports top journalist told Mikel Arteta and Arsenal that their deal for £65M star is better than Erik Ten Hag and Man United’s next signing

Craig Burley thinks Arsenal’s transfer deal with Chelsea for Kai Havertz is better than what Manchester United are going to get for Mason Mount.

There is a clearout at Chelsea this summer after they spent hundreds of hundreds of millions during previous transfer windows, only to finish in the Premier League’s bottom half, with Kai Havertz already in Arsenal colours and Mason Mount set to join him out of the exit door.

The England international is close to securing a deal with Manchester United for £60 million, according to Sky Sports.

But for former Chelsea man Burley thinks, out of the two, it’s Arsenal who have got the better deal, especially if Mikel Arteta can get the best out of Havertz, who he says was ‘one of the most talented players’ in Germany, as he told ESPN.

The Gunners paid £65 million for the 24-year-old (Sky Sports), who has struggled during the past 18 months, including scoring only seven Premier League goals last season for Chelsea.

But Arteta clearly sees something in the playmaker, with Burley backing the move, ahead of the Mount deal.

“If Arsenal can somewhere find the button, the arm around Havertz, the confidence factor that takes him back to the player that he was at Bayer Leverkusen, then Arsenal (have got the better deal than Man United’s for Mount),” said Burley.

“But that’s a big if. He was coveted at Leverkusen as a youngster. There is no getting away from that. People can sit here and say ‘Chelsea this and Chelsea that’. That’s undeniable either. But he was one of the most talented youngsters in the Bundesliga.

“If they can get that up and running again, then Arsenal.”

Havertz can thrive at Arsenal

Yes, for most of the time, Havertz struggled at Stamford Bridge, but for most of that time, he was played out of position.

Last season shouldn’t be looked into too much because, in truth, who really performed for Chelsea?

Near-on everyone struggled, so if Arteta plays Havertz in midfield rather than as a number nine, then he will finally showcase his talents.
