The Gunners came away 5-3 winners in an an eight-goal thriller against the Spanish giants in Los Angeles, as Mikel Arteta’s side put their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United well and truly behind them.
Goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Fabio Vieira took the game beyond the reigning La Liga champions, capping off their pre-season tour of the United States in style.
However, Holding was at fault for one of Barca’s goals, slipping in possession inside his own half before Ousmane Dembele played in Ferran Torres who scored, with Holding unable to get back in time.
The mistake came just four minutes after he came off the bench, making it a personally miserable night for the former England U-21 captain.
Holding posts cryptic message
Holding took to Instagram after the game, uploading a black screen on his story, simply captioning it “Nice one”.
It would appear the post was in response to Arsenal fans who took issue with his error on social media amid speculation that he could leave the club this summer.
The 27-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers back in 2016, has been rumoured with a move to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, with a £2 million bid reportedly rejected earlier this month.
Meanwhile, he looks to have fallen further down the defensive pecking order following the arrival of versatile defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax.
It is thought that Arteta is willing to let him go this summer, but is holding out for a fee nearer £10m if he is to see the defender leave permanently.
Holding may be given another chance to prove himself in the Emirates Cup against Monaco on Tuesday August 2, where the Gunners return to home soil.
