Micah Richards says something really terrible has happened at Arsenal

Micah Richards has claimed that Arsenal will not win the Premier League title this season because of one big reason – Gabriel Jesus’ injury.

The Gunners came ever so close to stopping Manchester City’s dominance last term. They spent over two-thirds of the campaign on top of the Premier League table, but Pep Guardiola’s side pipped them in the end.

Arsenal will hope to go all the way this time, but Richards claimed on BBC Sport that won’t happen.

Micah Richards says Gabriel Jesus’ injury will kill Arsenal

Arsenal were dealt a huge blow last week when it was confirmed that Gabriel Jesus was injured.

The Brazilian suffered a serious knee issue back in December and that sidelined him for about three months. He came back strong from that, but the same issue is said to have caused him a few problems. 

Mikel Arteta confirmed Jesus had to undergo a procedure to rectify the issue, and he’s now set to miss the start of the new season as a result. 

Richards thinks that will cost Arsenal the Premier League title.

He said: “I was close to picking Arsenal to win the title this season, because no team has ever won it four years in a row. 

“But, they are without Gabriel Jesus at the start of the season and I think that is just going to kill them.”

Gabriel Jesus’ absence is certainly a big blow for Arsenal, but it’s not the end of the world. 

The Gunners beat Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend without the Brazilian. Kai Havertz was deployed up front that day, but Arteta has the option of using Leandro Trossard and Eddie Nketiah there as well.

To add that, Chris Wheatley revealed on his YouTube show this week that Jesus is targeting to be fit for the game against Crystal Palace this month.

If that does happen, he would only miss one league game. That won’t ‘kill’ Arsenal at all.
