Aston Villa want Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy, according to i news.
Villa manager Unai Emery wants Sevilla full-back Marcos Acuna, but the deal could fall through and the Spaniard has identified the Gunners player as a plan B.
Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen have also made enquiries about Tavares, and Arsenal sporting director Edu has been trying to find a buyer for the 23-year-old.
Nottingham Forest and West Ham United have also been linked with the Portuguese, but the former saw their negotiations for a £13 million move fall through on Saturday.
Tavares spent last season on loan at Marseille and is surplus to requirements at Arsenal.
Clubs in Italy and Germany are also interested in the defender, but remaining in the Premier League to prove himself could be more appealing.
Despite his talents and potential, the Portugal youth international has fallen out of favour with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, with his reaction to being withdrawn after 34 minutes against Forest in January 2022 likely to have led to the falling out.
Arsenal are looking to raise funds for further squad strengthening before the summer transfer window shuts, and a permanent deal for Tavares could be seen as a better option.
He bagged six goals in 31 appearances last term in Ligue 1 and could be perfect for Villa as Emery looks to guide his side to Europe this term, but whether Arsenal would be open to doing their former manager some favours during negotiations remains to be seen.
They have sold Granit Xhaka, Matt Turner and Auston Trusty thus far this summer, while Marquinhos has left on loan, but more departures are expected in the coming days as Arteta wants clarity over his final squad for the season as soon as possible.
