Arsenal Are Eager To Sign This Barcelona Defensive Ace: Should Arteta Get Him On Board?

In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo stated that Arsenal are eager to sign Barcelona defensive ace Eric Garcia during this summer transfer window. It has been revealed that the Gunners have identified the Spanish centre-back as a replacement for Jurrien Timber who is currently sidelined with a long-term injury.

Garcia’s Decent Form In Spanish Football Last Season

Garcia experienced a solid campaign at the Catalan club recently as he produced a series of impressive displays at the centre of Xavi’s defence. The 22-year-old was involved in 32 matches for Barcelona last season, finding the back of the net once and grabbing two assists in multiple competitions.

The Spanish talent was a consistent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per game in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 91% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Barcelona will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for Arsenal to sign him on the cheap before the end of this month.

Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Get Garcia On Board?

Garcia is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.

The Spanish sensation mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if told to do so by his manager.

We can expect Garcia to add more quality to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s defence. He might even help the Gunners compete across all fronts over the next few years.

Thus, the North London club would be wise to try everything in their power to get Garcia on board during this summer transfer window.

He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Man City and won’t take much time to settle into Arteta’s playing style at the London club.
