PLAYER TELLS HIS MANAGER HE WANTS TO LEAVE, ARTETA WANTS HIM AT ARSENAL

Arsenal have been linked with Barcelona central defender Eric Garcia, with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta personally keen on bringing the youngster to the Emirates Stadium in the final days of the summer transfer window.

According to Sport, Arsenal want to sign Eric Garcia from Barcelona this week.

The Gunners are looking for a new defender after Jurrien Timber suffered a long-term injury this month.

Timber moved to Arsenal earlier this summer.

Sport has claimed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta himself is keen on working with Garcia at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta is convinced that his Spanish compatriot would be a success at Arsenal, according to the report.

Garcia worked with Arteta when the Arsenal manager was a coach at Manchester City.

During his time at City, Garcia made 19 appearances in the Premier League, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

The 22-year-old Spain international centre-back joined Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

Sport, though, has mentioned Girona as another club who are keen on Garcia.

And, according to the Spanish publication, that is where the defender wants to move to this week.

Sport has reported that Garcia has told Barcelona head coach Xavi that he wants to go out on loan for this season.

It is Girona that is most appealing to the youngster.

Now, while this would seem strange at first, perhaps it could be that the Spanish defender feels that he would get more time at Girona than he would at Arsenal.

After all, Arsenal manager Arteta already has Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel as the key centre-backs in his squad.

Garcia has made two substitute appearances in La Liga for Barcelona this season.

The 22-year-old made 15 starts and nine substitute appearances in La Liga for Barca last season, scoring one goal in the process.
