Stewart Robson has claimed that Arsenal fans ‘don’t want’ Kai Havertz starting for Mikel Arteta and some of them are even ‘booing’ the Germany international.

The former Arsenal player says that Chelsea sold Kai Havertz this summer because he ‘wasn’t good enough’, regardless of him scoring the winning goal in a Champions League final, after he was defended by a Bundesliga reporter.

That win over Manchester City in 2021 hasn’t done Havertz any good because, rather than his career taking an upward trajectory, he has gone backwards, which Robson pointed out, as he told ESPN.

Ever since Havertz stepped foot into the Emirates, he has been taking verbal hits left, right and centre – some even claimed that he was a ‘flop’ even before kicking a ball.

That has transcended onto the pitch because his performances in Arsenal colours haven’t exactly been up to scratch, even though Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten from their opening four matches.

Either way, Robson let rip at Havertz and the 24-year-old’s performances, as both a Chelsea and Arsenal player, after he was defended by a Bundesliga reporter over the international break.

Havertz at Chelsea and now Arsenal

On Havertz scoring the winning goal for Chelsea in the UCL final: “He wasn’t good enough, that’s why they got rid of him,” said Robson. 

“You can’t keep defending players that go to the Premier League from the Bundesliga because you want to say that the Bundesliga is such a great league. He hasn’t been good enough for Chelsea and he hasn’t been good enough for Arsenal. You are trying to say Havertz was good enough for Chelsea, he wasn’t. That’s why they sold him.

“He has gone to Arsenal and the Arsenal fans don’t want him in the side. They are booing him, at the moment. They don’t want him in the team. They can’t understand why Arteta is playing the system that he is playing to fit Havertz into it. He is struggling at Arsenal, at the moment.”

Germany sack Hansi Flick

When Havertz went out on international duty, he would have hoped for some respite, but it has been far from it.

In fact, things have probably become worse because Germany sacked Hansi Flick on Sunday after their humiliating 4-1 home defeat to Japan, in which Havertz started – Jurgen Klopp is Germany’s ‘dream’ appointment.

Havertz needs some luck from somewhere because, if his form continues down this current path, then it won’t be too long before he is warming the bench for Arsenal and Germany.
