Rio Ferdinand names Man Utd star who impressed him, he responded ‘perfectly’

Manchester United bounced back to form with a huge win over Burnley, with Rio Ferdinand being impressed by one player.

Burnley were good, but not good enough as Manchester United stole one at Turf Moor with a 1-0 win.

A vital victory for Erik ten Hag given the three losses on the bounce before this.

It was also a big day for the defence as it kept a second clean sheet of the season, which will have been a big boost for Andre Onana.

One defender who impressed was Jonny Evans with his assist and also solid defensive display.

Rio Ferdinand on Jonny Evans

Speaking at half-time on TNT Sports, Rio Ferdinand explained that Jonny Evans had impressed him.

He said: “Exquisite pass, he’s led the backline very well today, there was a lot of pressure coming into this game today,”.

Ferdinand continued, “but he’s responded perfectly well, he’s probably been the most calm and assured player on the pitch.”

This is incredibly high praise coming from a Manchester United legend, and one of the best ever centre backs.

Moves up the pecking order

With that display, it wouldn’t be bold to assume that Evans could have moved up the pecking order at Old Trafford.

This could spell bad news for Harry Maguire who might now be fifth choice when everyone is fit.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof are all absolutely ahead of him, but now Evans too?

Maguire’s poorly timed injury could have cost him his last chance at impressing Erik ten Hag.
