Newcastle United appear to have quite the player on their hands in Anthony Gordon.
The £40m winger may have taken time to settle at Newcastle but, after a strong pre-season, now appears to be firing on all cylinders.
Gordon has scored two goals and registered two assists thus far, proving worth the investment in January. Keep going at this rate and perhaps that kind of fee will start to look rather like a bargain.
Indeed, the 22-year-old has gone up so many levels this season that talkSPORT pundit Martin Keown even suggested Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal could do with a player of his quality in their squad.

Not long after calling for Gordon to get into the England squad, the former Gunners star was asked whether or not the winger could play for this Arsenal team, who ran Manchester City so close last season in the title race of course.
When asked by Simon Jordan if he could play for Arsenal, Keown responded (at 11.51 on Friday 29 September): “I think he would, yeah.
“He would right now, [Gabriel] Martinelli’s injured.”
High praise indeed but playing for Newcastle is honour enough
That, clearly, is high praise from a former Arsenal stalwart.
Still, and while the Gunners did finish higher in the Premier League last season, playing for Newcastle is honour enough.
Both are Champions League teams of course, so no longer would a move to the Emirates Stadium be considered a major step up. Those days are gone it would seem.
Gordon has excelled for Newcastle and it’s easy to see why pundits would say such a thing. That kind of recognition can only be a positive.
Still, his home is very much at St James’ Park.
