‘TERRIBLE CHALLENGE’: PL LEGEND SAYS £265,000-A-WEEK ARSENAL PLAYER DENIED A PENALTY VS CHELSEA

One of the talking points of the London derby between Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at Stamford Bridge was the challenge from Roberto Sanchez on Gabriel Jesus.

The incident happened in the second half of the Premier League match on Saturday evening.

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez came off his line to clear a free kick.

Sanchez could not get to the ball.

Instead, he went straight into Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.

No penalty was given.

Alan Shearer on Robert Sanchez vs Gabriel Jesus incident during Chelsea vs Arsenal

Newcastle United legend and BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer believes that Arsenal should have had a penalty for that particular incident.

Wright also has expressed his shock on Match of the Day on BBC One that Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez was not penalised for the incident involving the £265,000-a-week (Spotrac) Jesus.

The pundit said: “They should have had (a penalty). There’s no doubt about it.

“Sanchez has just come out, and he wipes him out, Jesus.

“What’s key for me is that he catches him in the head.

“Look, he goes right through him here.

“It’s a terrible challenge.

“How on earth can the VAR not think that’s a penalty, and the referee?

“He is nowhere near the ball.”

My View: Arsenal wronged vs Chelsea

I agree with Alan Shearer.

Arsenal should have had a penalty for that incident.

Robert Sanchez has not been particularly convincing for Chelsea this season, and the goalkeeper was far from his best against Arsenal in the London derby on Saturday evening.

You could argue that Sanchez should have been better positioned for the goal that Declan Rice scored.
