Dejan Kulusevski says player Arsenal released on a free is even better than Gareth Bale
Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has ranked Arsenal old-boy Willian higher than Gareth Bale in his list of the top five wingers in Premier League history.
The Brazil international has been in England for a long time now, and he has had his fair share of ups and downs. His time at Arsenal was the worst by far, but Kulusevski still rates him very highly.
Dejan Kulusevski ranks Willian higher than Gareth Bale
Willian was an absolute star at Chelsea during his seven-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazil international helped the Blues win five trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Europe League – the latter, ironically, came after Chelsea beat Arsenal in the final in Baku.
Mikel Arteta and Edu saw an opportunity to sign Willian on a free transfer in 2020, and even though many warned them against it, they signed him.
The Brazilian’s time at the Emirates was an absolute disaster. He looked nothing like the player he previously was, and Arsenal ripped up his contract and let him leave on a free after just one year.
Despite what happened in the red side of North London, Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski believes Willian is the fourth-best winger in the history of the Premier League – ahead of Gareth Bale, who he ranked fifth
The Swede said on TNT Sports: “Willian, fourth.
“He still plays today. Unbelievable player, underrated, very good to watch him always and good to have played against him also.”
Willian is Mikel Arteta’s worst Arsenal signing
Arsenal signed Willian in 2020 for absolutely no reason.
The Gunners didn’t need him at all, but for some reason, Mikel Arteta and Edu spent big money on wages to lure him away from Chelsea.
Willian’s Arsenal stats read one goal in 37 appearances in all competitions. That is a shocking return, and the Gunners were right to release him on a free in the following year.
Arteta hasn’t got many signings wrong during his time as Arsenal’s manager, but Willian definitely was a poor one – possibly the worst!
