Freddie Ljungberg so impressed by ‘special’ 22-year-old after Arsenal win at Brentford
Freddie Ljungberg has suggested that Arsenal have a special player who played a key role in what proved to be the winning goal against Brentford on Saturday.
Ljungberg was speaking on Monday Night Football (broadcast on 27/11; 19:39) as he praised Bukayo Saka for the ball into the penalty area which allowed Kai Havertz to score his first league goal from open play for the Gunners.
It does appear that Arsenal’s forward line is not in the kind of form which saw them fly out of the blocks last season. Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli both have just one goal each in the top-flight.
Freddie Ljungberg lauds ‘special’ Bukayo Saka
However, one player who has been brilliant once again has been Bukayo Saka. The 22-year-old has six goals and has provided eight assists across the Premier League and Champions League.
And the latest assist, of course, came at the Gtech Community Stadium at the weekend, as the England international curled an amazing cross to the back post for Havertz to nod in.
And as Ljungberg analysed the goal, he picked out Saka for praise.
“If we look at it here, we see that Brentford, they play with a five here. They go wide, as Arsenal always do and you have a special player in my opinion, gets the ball in which is top,” he told Monday Night Football.
Gunners yet to find their best form
It is ominous for Arsenal’s rivals that Saka appears to be one attacker finding something like his best form so far this season.
Martin Odegaard has struggled this term. And Mikel Arteta is going to need Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli to improve their returns in front of goal.
And yet, Arsenal find themselves top of the Premier League table. It is almost more frightening than last season where the Gunners set the pace by some way.
If Arsenal can find another few gears, they are going to be right in the mix come the end of the season.
But when you have Bukayo Saka in your ranks, you have always got a chance.
