TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU PROVING UNDROPPABLE AFTER STELLAR FIRST HALF DISPLAY VS LENS
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu continued his fine form this season with two fantastic assists against Lens in the Champions League last night.
The Japan international was in-and-out of the starting line-up at the beginning of the campaign, but he has become a mainstay in recent weeks.
He was initially drafted into the line-up in place of Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back. Before the international break, he got the nod at right-back with Ben White’s injury.
The former Bologna man has been playing his best football this season, having overcome his injury concerns. He looked at his best in the 6-0 win over Lens at the Emirates Stadium.
The 25-year-old delivered a stunning long cross field ball for Gabriel Martinelli’s goal. Right at the end of the half, he produced the cross for Martin Odegaard’s volley which made it 5-0.
The Japanese was substituted at the break with White replacing him but in our opinion, the versatile star is undroppable with his current run of form.
TOMIYASU UNDROPPABLE AFTER EXCELLENT LENS DISPLAY
Tomiyasu has suffered long-term injuries in the back end of the last two seasons. He required a knee surgery earlier in March, but has recovered splendidly to become a key player.
This has been much talk that Tomiyasu does not offer more offensively, but he got the chance to prove his doubters wrong yesterday with two sublime assists in the first half. He made three key passes alongside three long balls.
In our view, the €25 million-rated star has now earned his spot in the starting line-up ahead of White. Tomiyasu is undroppable at the moment and should continue in the XI in the forthcoming games.
With his injury record over the past few campaigns, manager Mikel Arteta may ideally play him for an hour before replacing him with White. He got his due rest at half-time yesterday.
