PSV manager Peter Bosz has heaped praise on Arsenal playmaker Kai Havertz during an exclusive interview with The Athletic.
Bosz was the head coach of Havertz for three seasons at Leverkusen and during that time, the 24-year-old established himself as one of the most sought-after players in Germany.
As a result, he made the move to London with Chelsea. His time at Stamford Bridge was a mixed bag, but he still scored the goal which won them the Champions League title in 2021.
Speaking to The Atletic, Bosz said that Havertz initially occupied the right wing for Leverkusen, but he started playing him higher up the field and eventually in the number nine role.
The Dutch tactician added that Havertz is ‘so good’ and he is often ‘misunderstood’. The 60-year-old believes the German does everything to win games for his respective clubs.
He said: “Sometimes you have a player who is so good, like Kai, that you don’t have to say anything, the players are following him already. He is misunderstood. This guy does everything to win games.”
“I was the guy (as a player) who made the tackles and everyone said I was 100 per cent, but that was me. Kai plays piano like Bach. I was like, ‘A footballer playing piano? I can’t believe it’. But he is really intelligent.
“When he left for Chelsea the next day, there was a box for every player and every staff member with his jersey and his name on the back. He didn’t have to but this is the person he is.”
HAVERTZ FINDING HIS FEET AT ARSENAL
The Germany international had a good pre-season with the Gunners, but he struggled to replicate the showing during the early weeks of his debut campaign.
Havertz got into some brilliant goalscoring positions in the box and he lacked the cutting edge with his finishing which led to criticism from some pundits.
He has since redeemed himself with important contributions. Havertz provided the key assist which led to Gabriel Martinelli’s winning strike against Manchester City.
He also scored the winner at Brentford and a vital equaliser against Luton Town in the 4-3 comeback win. The Leverkusen graduate added another last weekend versus Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Gunners could have had a nervy finish with a one-goal lead but Havertz put the game to bed. He has now registered five goals and one assist in all competitions.
There is still plenty more to come from him. The German has been gaining confidence with every outing and Arsenal will be pleased with their investment last summer.
