Paul Scholes names the two Arsenal players Mikel Arteta now cannot do without

Arsenal might have only got a draw against Liverpool at Anfield yesterday but Danny Murphy was massively impressed with two players.

The Gunners took an early lead at Anfield but were pinned back by the home side, who fought their way back in to the game an equalised through a fine Mo Salah goal.

However, all in all, Arsenal showed they are very much in the title picture again and had some big performances from a few individuals to thank.

In particular, both Declan Rice and William Saliba impressed and former Liverpool midfielder Murphy has claimed the Gunners now cannot live without the pair.

Danny Murphy lauds Saliba and Rice after Arsenal v Liverpool

Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Murphy admitted he’s been so impressed by the Arsenal duo and that is stands, the Gunners cannot do without them.

“This game showed me just how important Rice — and also William Saliba — are for Mikel Arteta. They are the two players he cannot do without if they are going to win the Premier League. With those two players in the side, they can get a result anywhere,” Murphy said.

Big players rising to the occasion for Arsenal 

Big games call for big players on the big stage and Arsenal certainly got performances from their top dogs yesterday.

Saliba was hugely impressive all game and won the man of the match on Sky. Rice, meanwhile, was brilliant and he was picked out by Ian Wright after the game for his performance as well.

Arsenal more than showed they are capable of competing with the big teams yesterday and the performance they got from Rice is exactly why they spent so much money on him.

As the season goes on, you do feel like Rice is growing into being the main man at Arsenal more and more.

Saliba, of course, seems to be going from strength to strength and looks like one of the very best in the league at times.
