Arsenal have just flown out scouts to watch 22-year-old striker with ‘incredible energy’

Ahead of January and next summer, it seems Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal team are ramping up their efforts to find a new striker.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have done a fine job for the club, both excelling at times, however, there’s the feeling that the club could still improve.

Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney in the past – strikers who would arrive with an intention to start games.

However, it now seems that Arsenal are exploring some targets that can simply improve the department as a whole, players with untapped potential.

And according to Moroccan outlet Le 360 Sport, Arsenal are now closely monitoring Stade Rennais striker Ibrahim Salah.

The report says that Arsenal have now flown scouts to France to watch Salah, who also has interest from Lille and Valencia among other clubs.

Salah currently has six goals in his 16 appearances for Rennes this season, with three of those goals coming in Ligue 1.

Of course, the 22-year-old would represent a long-term signing for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, a striker who seems unlikely to make an immediate difference.

But with patience, the club may hope that the versatile forward could provide competition centrally and in wide areas.

Arsenal now scouting Stade Rennais’ Ibrahim Salah as Mikel Arteta seeks new striker

Salah joined Stade Rennais in January of this year and upon signing the striker, Rennes’ Sporting Director Florian Maurice was very excited about his potential.

Speaking to L’Equipe, it seems a lot of his hope has since been realised.

Maurice said: “He is a player that we have been following for several months and who has shown very good things in the Belgian Championship.

“He doesn’t have a lot of experience but we are going to see a player with incredible energy. He wants to work, to progress, he has this fire and this desire to move forward.

“He’s a very good player, he’s fast, he’s technically good, he can play on one side or in the middle.”

And although Salah might not be the typical answer to Arsenal’s striker pursuit, he could be a very interesting option for Arteta.

Perhaps if Arsenal did decide to chase a deal it would be in addition to a big name arriving next summer, someone who could shoulder much of the burden whilst Salah developed.

However, given the levels he’s shown in Ligue 1 and the Europa League this season, he could be ready to contribute for a top side fairly soon.

That being said, it seems that one player Arsenal have already recruited from Ligue 1 could be a target for Saudi sides in January.
