‘Phenomenal’ player is now on the verge of leaving Arsenal in the coming days

Arsenal midfielder star man is on the verge of leaving the Emirates this month.

The January transfer window is open and Arsenal fans are hoping for some activity at their club. All eyes will be on incomings, but there are a few players who could be sold too. Elneny is one of them.

Mohamed Elneny is on the verge of leaving Arsenal

Arsenal signed Mohamed Elneny from Basel all the way back in January 2016.

The Egyptian is the longest-serving player at the Emirates, and he is a very popular member of the squad. Mikel Arteta has even branded him as a ‘phenomenal’ player. (Metro)

Elneny, however, is only a squad player at Arsenal. He has played just 72 minutes of football in all competitions this season, and that number isn’t expected to go up by a lot in the second half of the campaign.

The Daily Mail now claim that Elneny is ‘on the verge’ of leaving Arsenal.

He is attracting serious interest from Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Besiktas, and the report says the Gunners are considering letting their fringe players leave.

Elneny’s current contract at Arsenal expires at the end of this season.

Arsenal will need to replace Elneny

Mohamed Elneny has barely played this season, so losing him shouldn’t really hurt Arsenal this month.

However, the Egyptian, apart from Jorginho, is the only player available at the moment who can fill in for Declan Rice if the Englishman gets injured or suspended.

If Arsenal do sell Elneny, they should make it a point to bring in a new midfielder – it could even be someone who will only fill the purpose of being a squad player.

It will be interesting to see what will happen on this front, but if Arsenal can’t sign a new midfielder, we think keeping hold of Elneny until the end of the season makes more sense.
