Among all of the issues Mikel Arteta is contending with at Arsenal right now, he won’t certainly won’t want unhappy players in his squad.

Arsenal have now endured three defeats on the spin, ending their chances of winning the FA Cup and severely damaging their title hopes.

That being said, fans are now increasingly keen for their side to see the January transfer window as an opportunity to improve.

Goals are now proving a real issue, and last night Mikel Arteta turned to Reiss Nelson as a starter instead of Gabriel Martinelli.

Nelson impressed in his minutes, even if he tailed off in the second half much like the majority of his teammates.

And the winger has now admitted that he’s been slightly unhappy with the amount of chances he’s had under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal of late.

Insisting his desire to fight for his place and achieve with the club, Nelson said he had a lot more to give when speaking to The Standard.

Nelson said: “Yeah. I have said this before, but Arsenal is my club since I was eight years old. Of course, I want to be playing much more than I am right now.

“It’s good to be coming off the bench, but I want to be starting. I feel like I am proving myself every day in training, so with this momentum I want to go on and keep playing more.

“I signed my contract, I am here now and I have just got to prove to the boss that I deserve more minutes.

“Like I said, when I get chances to play I can prove myself and show everyone what I can do.”

Of course, much to his word, Nelson did make use of last night’s start and was perhaps unlucky not to put his side 1-0 ahead. 

A new striker means less minutes for Nelson

With many Arsenal fans calling for a new striker, they will be aware of the ramifications it will have on their current squad.

The arrival of a Ivan Toney or a Victor Boniface – who incidentally has admitted he’s an Arsenal fan, could mean Gabriel Jesus pushes out wide.

And therefore that could make chances under Arteta even harder to come by for Arsenal players like Nelson, who is already unhappy with his situation.

It’s a delicate one to manage, and that’s perhaps one of the many reasons The Gunners will likely wait until the summer for their serious recruitment.
