Raya was also signed on a loan-to-buy deal from Brentford to push for the No.1 spot at the Emirates Stadium, and he hasn’t looked back since. The Spaniard has played 15 of Arsenal’s 20 Premier League matches so far this season, whilst also starting in between the sticks for five of his side’s Champions League matches.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers star has struggled on occasions since joining the Gunners, though he retains the faith of Arteta and remains his first-choice shot-stopper. Ramsdale, in contrast, has slipped to being the rotational option in north London.

Following their 2-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool in the FA Cup, Arsenal are now out of both domestic cup competitions, where Ramsdale featured the most frequently. Thus, if the pattern continues, it is hard to see the 25-year-old racking up many more appearances this season.

With the Euros on the horizon, warming the bench for the remainder of the campaign will certainly be a worry for Ramsdale.

It would be no surprise if the goalkeeper decides to push for a move rather than try and force his way back into the Arsenal team, which would appear to be a real struggle given that he has performed well when called upon but still not featured regularly in the Premier League.

A significant bid from a top club would certainly test the resolve of Arsenal, and player pressure could play a key role in how negotiations pan out.

Newcastle and Chelsea have both been linked with Ramsdale previously, and the prospect of playing for either side frequently would certainly reignite his chances of featuring in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the summer.
