Arsenal have been handed a fresh chance to sign Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, after Eddie Howe’s side posted huge levels of losses in their latest set of accounts.

The Magpies have released their latest accounts, with the club posting a pre-tax loss of £73.4million, despite increasing their revenue by 39 percent to £250m, with the main reason behind their huge losses being the level of spending within the transfer market from the club.

The likes of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and the added figure of a possible permanent deal for Lewis Hall further down the lie have all arrived at a hefty price for the club, who may need to consider potential sales in the future if they wish to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) and the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Newcastle’s CEO, Darren Eales, spoke openly about the latest financial figures that have been released, where he discussed the possibility that the club will need to sell players if they want to be active in future transfer markets. “Correct,” Eales responded when asked if every player had a price.

“The reality is that when you look at FFP, if you take a step back and look at PSR, there’s ways you can create that headroom. Player churn, it’s counterintuitive, but it’s the nature of the beat that it creates headroom. We have to approach everything on a medium-to-long-term basis, not just being reactive. We have to be minded due to PSR and FFP rules that we are compliant.”

The likes of Isak, Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes were all signed by the club on the basis that they were major upgrades within the squad, but also due to their ability to be sold on for huge levels of profit in the future. Which could open the door for Arsenal to pursue a move for long-term target Isak. 

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal remain long-term ‘admirers’ of the Newcastle forward, with Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu both holding the player in high regard following his showings in the Premier League. The Gunners showed an interest in Isak prior to his £63m move to St James’ Park, and could now look to cash in on the financial constraints Newcastle currently find themselves in.

It’s possibly a situation Eddie Howe’s side are currently preparing for, after recently being linked with a move for in-form Bournemouth striker, Dominic Solanke.
