TALKSPORT PUNDIT SUGGESTS ARSENAL SHOULD GO FOR £60 MILLION PREMIER LEAGUE STRIKER OVER IVAN TONEY

Thierry Henry has suggested who Arsenal should push for instead of Ivan Toney if the Gunners can’t get a January deal over the line for the Brentford striker.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have struggled in recent weeks to put the ball in the back of the net and have dropped silly points as they bid to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury against Liverpool which may well have forced the Gunners hands in the January window and Ivan Toney has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has categorically stated that Toney will remain with the Bees this season and talkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil has claimed Arsenal should push for an alternative £60 million Premier League striker.

Brazil’s suggestion

Speaking on the talkSPORT breakfast show alongside Ally McCoist, Brazil was speaking about Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s bizarre red card against Crystal Palace, which was thankfully overturned, and believes the Everton forward could be exactly what Arsenal need.

“So, I was just going to touch on Calvert-Lewin, so he’s got off his red card and rightly so, that was a joke,” Brazil said.

“And I was just thinking if they can’t get the boy from Brentford, if they can’t get Ivan, then would Everton sell Calvert-Lewin? Or are they just worried about his injury problems that he’s got?”

“He’d finish, I think he’d score a lot of goals.”

Whether the Merseyside club would countenance a sale of the English forward in January seems unlikely as Everton aim to build on their good season, despite their 10-point deduction due to breaking Financial Fair Play rules.

Calvert-Lewin would be a risk

The risk for Arsenal is that if they did push for the English striker, would they be able to rely on Calvert-Lewin for the whole season as his injury problems have been a massive issue for over a year now.

Investing £60 million in a player who could be injured would also certainly be a risk for the Gunners as they need a proven, and reliable, goalscoring presence up top.

Going for Toney may well cost more money but it would be a very smart deal for the Gunners to do as the former Newcastle United striker would be able to handle the pressure of being relied on consistently.
