Aaron Ramsey has named Santi Cazorla as his toughest-ever opponent in training during his time at Arsenal.
The Spaniard was a fan favourite at the Emirates, wasn’t he? Everyone at Arsenal loved him, and he was an extraordinary footballer who was just a joy to watch.
Aaron Ramsey says Santi Cazorla was his best Arsenal teammate
Aaron Ramsey spent over a decade at Arsenal and played with a number of top-quality players.
He shared the dressing room with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and also World Cup winners like Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolsk
However, the Welshman had no hesitation when he was asked to name his best-ever teammate at Arsenal, someone who was always difficult to face in training.
Ramsey, like many others, named Santi Cazorla, who spent six years at the Emirates before being released by the club in the summer of 2018.
In an interview with Dimitris Manakos on Greek website England365, Ramsey said: “I had so many great team-mates over the years at Arsenal. Kieran Gibbs, Theo Walcott, Per Mertesacker, Koscielny, Santi, Nacho Monreal.
“However, Santi Cazorla was the most difficult to train (against).
“He was a pleasure to play with. So talented, he could use both legs equally and get out of any difficult situation. He was a great team player and enjoyed every minute he was on the pitch.”
Injury ruined Santi Cazorla’s Arsenal career
The only reason Santi Cazorla was released by Arsenal in 2018 was because of a terrible ankle injury. The Spaniard missed 123 games for club and country between October 2016 and the time he left Arsenal in the summer of 2018.
That was such a shame as Cazorla still had so much to offer for the Gunners.
Even to this day, the Spaniard is hailed by many Arsenal players – past and present – as the best footballer they shared the dressing room with. Some of the things he did with the ball were magical and just incredible to watch.
Cazorla is still playing at the age of 39. Arsenal fans will hope he returns to the Emirates one day in some capacity.
