‘Menace all game’… £43m forward was on fire for his country after being linked with summer move to Arsenal

It’s certainly not a very well kept secret that Arsenal would like to add an elite striker to Mikel Arteta’s project in the summer.

It has become clear this season that there’s something missing in the duo of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, even if they are both excellent players.

Neither striker is a prolific goal-scorer, with both offering Arteta something very similar either from the start or on the bench.

And with there now been an increasing appetite for a number nine at the Emirates who is solely focused on goals, a few names have surfaced.

Perhaps Dusan Vlahovic is now a target of the past, a striker the club did seem keen on for some time.

And if Arsenal have moved on from Vlahovic, it seems they are now deliberating between Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen if reports are to be believed.

Both strikers would be excellent additions, but will have plenty of interest when they are expected to be available this summer.

That being said, Victor Osimhen has just delivered another outstanding display for Nigeria at AFCON, a performance which helped his side to a quarter-final tie against Angola on Friday.

Despite scoring neither of Nigeria’s two goals against Cameroon last night, Osimhen was influential.

The Napoli striker, who the club signed for £43m in 2020, made the first goal for Ademola Lookman with his excellent industry and composure.

Although recognised as a brilliant goal-scorer, Osimhen proved his credentials in some underrated aspects too.

According to Soccernet in Nigeria, Osimhen was a ‘menace all game’.

Providing a summary of Osimhen’s performance against Cameroon, the outlet said: “The Napoli striker was a menace all game for the Cameroon central defenders.

“His initial press on Jean-Charles Castelletto won the ball for the Super Eagles and he played a cushioned pass to set up Ademola Lookman for the opener.”

And whilst Osimhen is often discussed as a pure-goalscorer, he’s clearly got a lot of facets to his game.

In truth, either Toney or Osimhen would look like an excellent striker for Arteta to add to his Arsenal project next summer.

Perhaps Osimhen will be more expensive, but he could certainly have a higher ceiling.

And speaking of potential, it seems as if one exciting Arsenal youngster will leave on loan in the next few days.
