RIO FERDINAND ADMITS £27M ARSENAL STAR MADE HIM ‘EAT MY WORDS’ V LIVERPOOL

Arsenal put on one of their best showings as they recorded a valuable three points to beat their Premier League title rivals Liverpool at the Emirates on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s men were probably fortunate with how Gabriel Martinelli put them back into the lead, but Arsenal would argue that Liverpool were equally fortunate to equalise.

Either way, three points are three points for the Gunners and it now puts them within two points of the Premier League leaders.

Gabriel Martinelli was a constant threat on the flank for Arsenal and Ferdinand admitted that he was ‘surprised’ and ‘confused’ when he was subbed off by Mikel Arteta, as he told Premier League Productions (04/02/24 at 6:45 pm).

It was Leandro Trossard who replaced him out wide and he proceeded to put the cherry on top of the cake by scoring in stoppage time.

Whilst Ferdinand initially felt that Gabriel Martinelli should have stayed on the pitch for the entire game.

In the end, the former striker admitted that he had to ‘eat my words’ because of Leandro Trossard finding the back of the net.

“I was very surprised and confused,” said Ferdinand about Martinelli going off. “But then Trossard scores and so I had to eat my words. Humble pie is in the house and ready to go.”

Leandro Trossard’s importance

Last January, Arsenal paid Brighton £27M for Trossard’s talents after failing to sign a certain Mykhailo Mudryk.

In the end, he opted to join Chelsea, who are now sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, so that was a lucky escape for the London club.

Either way, since Trossard joined. He has proven to be an underrated player for the team and someone who can be relied upon when starting and coming off the bench.

Usually, when players aren’t earning regular minutes, you can excuse them for being rusty, but Trossard always seems to have a bounce and that bit of extra energy to his game, regardless of whether he has been playing consistently or not.
