Henry believes David Raya has made huge improvements in an Arsenal shirt of late.
The Spaniard has nailed down his place as Arsenal’s number-one goalkeeper after a slightly difficult start to life at the Emirates Stadium.
There was plenty of talk surrounding Mikel Arteta’s decision to bring in David Raya after Aaron Ramsdale enjoyed a brilliant campaign last time out.
It’s fair to say that Raya didn’t exactly hit the ground running after his switch from Brentford over the summer.
The 27-year-old made some costly errors leading to goals and looked shaky on the ball during the opening months of his Arsenal career. But the fact that you’ve barely heard Raya’s name mentioned in recent weeks is usually a good sign for a goalkeeper.
And Lee Hendrie has heaped praise on the shot-stopper for the improvements he’s made in recent weeks.
Hendrie on Raya’s improvements at Arsenal
Speaking on Sky Sports, Hendrie singled out Raya for praise after watching the goalkeeper in action in the 5-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.
“You’ve even got to give David Raya a bit of credit,” the pundit said. “He was under the spotlight. He was conceding poor goals.
“All of a sudden, it’s off him and I watched him yesterday and his distribution was… you can totally see why he’s been bought into that team because eventually that will all gel.”
David Seaman recently lauded Raya as a ‘brilliant’ goalkeeper and has also picked up on his progress at Arsenal.
The Gunners look set to make his loan switch from Brentford permanent for a fee worth around £30 million this summer.
Despite a shaky start to life in north London, Raya grows more assured by the week. We are finally seeing why Arteta was keen to land him and replace Ramsdale.
