Ian Wright disappointed with Kai Havertz
The Sky Sports presenter criticized the German international after seeing footage of his involvement in Martin Odegaard’s disallowed goal.
Wright initially claimed there was nothing wrong with the Norwegian player’s attempt, but was then slightly disgusted when he saw that Havertz had actually pulled Pepe’s shirt.
The man said: “Hertz was in a very bad mood at the time: ‘Let’s see. No, it’s not a foul. It’s a goal. Pepe was caught. Maybe he pulled the shirt. Honestly, why would he pull the shirt?
“He pulled the shirt, but not much.”
Havertz actually seemed to do a remarkable job of pressing against the experienced Pepe, but frustratingly, he got stuck behind the Portuguese international’s shirt just before Odegaard entered the scene.
Arsenal have made a £65million move
In our opinion, Havertz was a lethargic figure at Chelsea who seemed disinterested much of the time and floated slightly in attacking areas.
However, Mikel Arteta has transformed the £65 million player into a much hungrier striker, chasing goals conceded and putting opposing defenders under pressure, just as he did with Pepe tonight before an uncomfortable pull on his shirt.
This energy, combined with the smart movement and clean touches he uses to link up with Bukaya Saka, makes Havertz a very effective striker in this formation.
After much confusion and dismay following the German’s move to North London, he is now emerging as a key player for the Gunners.
