BREAKING: Leeds United are set to announce a record-breaking blockbuster deal in the next 24hours- Deal in place as it’s set to become the biggest in the history of EFL
Leeds United are on the brink of agreeing a landmark sponsorship deal with Red Bull that would become the biggest in the history of the EFL, according to Last Word on Sports.
The Whites could reportedly announce the “seismic” partnership with the Austrian energy drinks conglomerate in the next 24 hours and, although no financial details have been explicitly given, it is believed that this deal will break all previous records of EFL sponsorship.
After their loss to Southampton in the Championship play-off final, the Elland Road club will face another season in the second tier, coupled with the financial challenges, largely concerning profit and sustainability, which come with that.
A source ‘very close’ to Leeds was reported as saying in the Last Word on Sports report (30 May): “(This is a) significant commercial deal that will not only be the largest sponsorship in the history of the EFL, but also help us build our global sports profile”.
Leeds fans will have mixed views of potential Red Bull deal
Leeds United and Red Bull have been on quite the journey in recent years, although this deal is set to be the first time that the pair will officially join up as partners.
The success of then-Red Bull Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch was what convinced former Director of Football Victor Orta that the American would be the anointed successor to Marcelo Bielsa in 2022
Having kept Leeds in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth that year, Marsch brought four players into the squad from Red Bull-affiliated clubs over the course of the following season.
Neither Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen nor Max Wober could make enough impact to avoid relegation in 2023, and all four departed on permanent or temporary deals within weeks.
Marsch was long gone by then, being sacked that February, and with all those factors taken into account, Red Bull’s reputation in Leeds isn’t exactly glowing prior to this sponsorship deal being announced.
But with one of the world’s biggest brands on board at Elland Road – and providing the financial capital to ease profit and sustainability issues – the club are in a healthier position to make a return to the top-flight at the second time of asking.
Good luck tolerating any shade of red on the famous white shirt though!
