“Leave Arsenal right now if you really want to make it in your career”-Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez urges Arsenal star to leave the club this summer and not to allow Mikel Arteta to ruin his career

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has advised Aaron Ramsdale to leave Arsenal for Wolverhampton Wanderers, while also taking a subtle jab at his former club.

Martinez, who spent a decade at Arsenal mostly on loan, left in 2020 after manager Mikel Arteta chose Bernd Leno as his preferred goalkeeper. Since then, Martinez has established himself as one of the world’s top goalkeepers, winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.

Arsenal replaced Leno with Ramsdale in 2021, but recently brought in David Raya, who has taken over as the club’s new No. 1. As a result, Ramsdale made just six Premier League appearances last season, leading to speculation that he could depart the club this summer.

Despite the similarities, Martinez believes Ramsdale’s situation differs from his own when he left Arsenal for Villa. “I think he’s in a different position to me,” Martinez said. “He signed for £32m and was the No. 1 for Arsenal—I never had a chance like that.”

Martinez added that Ramsdale, an England international, should seek a club where he feels valued. “When you play every game in the Premier League and then drop to the bench with the quality that Aaron has… I think he should find a place to play where he feels loved. I heard he might go to Wolves, which I think could be a good move for him.”

Reflecting on his own departure from Arsenal, Martinez shared how his move to Aston Villa was driven by a desire to prove himself. “I wanted to be an international player, play every Premier League game,” he said.

“When I started playing here, I fell in love with the crowd, with the fans. My kids were born here. You need to be where you feel happy, and I feel happy here.”
