Arsenal did not exactly bounce back from their defeat on the weekend with a dazzling display in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Mikel Arteta‘s side were able to secure all three points against Shakhtar Donetsk, but it was hardly a statement win from the Gunners.

Arsenal have now made it seven points in the Champions League from a possible nine as they sit in fourth spot of the table ahead of Wednesday’s fixtures.

But it could now be a case of just getting over the line with the north London side suffering from some considerable injury issues.

Tuesday night saw Arsenal inflicted with some further injury concerns with Riccardo Calafiori suffering a knee injury in the win over Shakhtar.

And there is one player who Gabriel Martinelli has specially thanked for his performance in the victory at the Emirates Stadium.

After losing against Bournemouth on the weekend, the Gunners could have really done with a big win ahead of a huge Premier League clash on the weekend.

Instead, Arsenal stuttered over the line in the Champions League with the only goal of the came coming from Shakhtar’s Dmytro Riznyk who converted into his own net.

The Shakhtar goalkeeper may have been unable to keep a clean sheet on the night but Arsenal’s David Raya continued to impress at the other end.

Speaking after the game, Martinelli thanked Raya for his display which was able to hold the visitors from finding the back of the net.

David Raya has become Arsenal’s most important player this season

Arsenal are currently playing without the likes of Bukayo Saka with the winger expected to miss the game against Liverpool on the weekend.

The Gunners are also facing some further absences with William Saliba out through suspension.

But one player who has remained a constant in the starting XI has been Raya and he has been in exceptional form this season.

Ally McCoist has already admitted he did not realise how good the £27m Raya was and has waxed lyrical about the Spaniard this season.

Raya has already claimed September’s Player of the Month award at Arsenal and with August’s winner – Saka – out through injury, the goalkeeper is looking like Arsenal’s most important player after another stunning display.
