Murillo blown away by one Nottingham Forest teammate vs Everton, says ‘what a player’

Nottingham Forest will go into 2025 firmly in the Champions League positions after beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.

The day started badly for the Forest manager after Murillo pulled up injured in the warm-up against Everton, with Nuno Espirito Santo delivering a Murillo update after the win.

Forest fans were delighted with Morato after he replaced Murillo in Forest’s win over Everton, with Forest keeping yet another away clean sheet despite the Brazilian’s absence

Watching from the away end, Forest fans chanted about their Premier League title push as they moved up to second place temporarily with Arsenal and Chelsea yet to play.

Another watching in the stands was the injured Murillo, who took to Instagram to comment on the post of one of his teammates who clearly impressed him against Everton.

Murillo praises Morgan Gibbs-White’s display vs Everton

Morgan Gibbs-White scored Forest’s second goal at Goodison Park and was heavily involved in Chris Wood’s opener, resulting in Sam Blitz praising Espirito Santo’s tactical tweak that saw Gibbs-White in a deeper role to play a long ball up to Wood in the buildup.

After his tremendous performance, the English midfielder took to Instagram, saying: “Seeing off 2024 with a big away W, let’s goooo!”

Murillo was one of a number of the Forest squad to reply in the comments, with the Brazilian saying: “What a player”. Neco Williams was also quick to reply, simply saying: “Him”, whilst Callum Hudson-Odoi also kept his praise brief, adding: “special”.

The Forest players were absolutely right to praise Gibbs-White, given his supremely impressive stats against Everton.

Alongside his goal and the involvement in Wood’s opener, Gibbs-White was predictably at the heart of all of Forest’s attacking flair, completing seven passes into the final third.

He also completed 81% of his passes in a game where Forest struggled to maintain consistent possession, as well as having two impactful touches in Everton’s box.

Gibbs-White’s defensive display was also admirable, winning 50% of his aerial duels against Sean Dyche’s direct style alongside four defensive recoveries.

Forest have opened contract talks with Gibbs-White recently, with performances like this showing why Espirito Santo is so desperate to keep hold of him.
