Darren Bent thinks ‘fantastic’ £5m Nottingham Forest star has been class this season

The Premier League season has reached the halfway point and Nottingham Forest are currently flying high in the division.

Nuno Espirito Santo has got the team sitting in third place so far this season with 19 games of the campaign reaping 37 points for Forest.

Jamie Redknapp has hailed Espirito Santo for the work he’s been doing and he deserves every accolade that comes his way.

Pundits across the globe have been changing their minds about what they said about Forest before a ball was kicked this season.

Robbie Earle has made a Forest U-turn, whilst Gary Lineker has called himself an idiot for his predictions made about the Reds.

Darren Bent raves about Nottingham Forest star Matz Sels

It’s that time of the year when pundits and experts start to take a look back at the season so far.

Alan Shearer recently raved about Elliot Anderson and there have been a number of top performers this season.

Darren Bent slammed one Forest player last season but he’s now been praising one star for his efforts during 2024/25.

In particular, it’s goalkeeper Matz Sels who has won his praise with Bent choosing him as the goalkeeper in his Team of the Season so far.

He told the Cycling GK Podcast: “I’m going to go for Matz Sels.

“I think there are probably more obvious answers but I think for Nottingham Forest to be where they are in the table, he’s made some fantastic saves, he’s part of that defensive unit.

“He’s made eight clean sheets by the way, which is on top of the clean sheet table. Sels has been brilliant for me.”

Forest star Sels has proved value for money
Eyebrows were raised when Forest chose not to go for Caoimhin Kelleher or Aaron Ramsdale but instead paid £5 million to sign Sels 12 months ago.

He was viewed as a short-term option and someone who would provide an upgrade on Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Sels has done a great job between the posts for Forest though and with eight clean sheets this season, he’s been quietly proving his doubters wrong.

Joe Hart hailed Sels earlier in the season and the goalkeeper is quietly going about his business between the posts for Forest.

Sels is another nod towards the Forest recruitment over the past 12 months and he looks set to keep the gloves for the remainder of the campaign.
