Newcastle United are trying to get rid of Miguel Almiron during the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old looks destined to leave St James’ Park, six years after Rafa Benitez signed him from Atlanta United. At the time, he was Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever at £21million.

Now Miguel Almiron is surplus to requirements, and a departure should be on the cards.

Eddie Howe has agreed to sell Almiron, and it is now a case of someone striking a deal with both the player and Newcastle United.

Charlotte FC are interested in signing Almiron, who is keen to return to the MLS. There has also been interest from South America, with a club in Brazil making an offer for Almiron.

Update on Miguel Almiron’s Newcastle future

The Paraguayan certainly has plenty of suitors, and the hope was that there would be a quick resolution to his future.

However, that might not be the case.

According to the i Paper, Almiron is now more likely to leave Newcastle United towards the end of the transfer window.

They add that the most likely solution could see Almiron depart on loan with an obligation or option to buy.

Almiron loan exit will not help Newcastle’s PSR position

That will not massively help Newcastle’s PSR position, at a time when Eddie Howe could benefit from reinforcements.

While plenty of players are being linked with moves to St James’ Park, it is difficult to see anyone of note arriving this month.

Heading into the window, it has been reported that Newcastle must sell to buy, and Toon officials would have hoped to get their outgoing business done early.

But that does not look likely to happen with Almiron, which is a major shame. And it will be even more disappointing if he only leaves the club on loan, without the benefit of a PSR boost.
