“Their squad is full of …….”- Newcastle United target Abdukodir Khusanov reveals the ‘single reason’ why he snubbed Newcastle United move to join Pep Guardiorla’s falling apart team
Abdukodir Khusanov has highlighted Pep Guardiola and his star-studded squad as the reason why he chose Manchester City over Newcastle United
The Magpies were understood to be expressing interest in the Uzbek international earlier this month. Khusanov was enjoying a fine breakout year at RC Lens before Premier League suitors came calling.
A move to Tyneside was never likely in January given Newcastle’s tight PSR situation. However, with Man City publishing record £715million revenues, this gave them an advantage over top-flight rivals to strike a winter deal.
Khusanov was soon followed by fellow centre-back Vitor Reis and Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush as part of the club’s mid-season rebuild. The 20-year-old has revealed City tactician Guardiola and the prospect of playing with the world’s best influenced his decision.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club that I have enjoyed watching for a long time,” he said. “This squad is full of the best players in the world and I can’t wait to meet them and play alongside them. And of course, Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches ever and I am so excited to learn from him and improve my game even more.”
Guardiola challenged the new arrival to master the English language before becoming an integral part of his emerging Man City revamp. He added: “Welcome to the City family. I’m happy that they’ve become part of our team.
“These are young players with great potential, and they can benefit the club for many years. Khusanov has already shown his qualities in France, and he has excellent physical conditioning. I hope he’ll quickly master the English language.”
