The Reds are one of several Premier League sides said to be monitoring the Newcastle United ace.

Liverpool might have a secret weapon up their sleeve when it comes to agreeing on a deal with Newcastle United for Alexander Isak.

The Reds are among the clubs being linked to the Magpies marksman, with Isak having shone in the Premier League this season.

After 24 matches this term, the Swede is averaging a G/A contribution every game, having netted 19 times and assisted a further five.

With reports suggesting Newcastle will demand a fee in the region of £150million to let Isak leave this summer, the Premier League champions-elect might have to get a little creative with their offer.

But the good news for Arne Slot and co. is that Newcastle have already shown their hand.

It was claimed during the 2024 summer transfer window that Newcastle were keen to sign Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez as part of a deal that would’ve seen Anthony Gordon go in the opposite direction.

Because of PSR reasons, instead of a straight up swap, the actual deal would’ve involved Gordon joining Liverpool for £75m, with Gomez putting pen to paper on a move to Newcastle for £45m, as per BBC Sport.

That agreement came after Newcastle had requested Jarell Quansah be included in any prospective deal involving Gordon.

So, ahead of the 2025 summer window, Newcastle have a player Liverpool want in Isak, with the Merseyside outfit boasting two players who could turn Eddie Howe’s head.

It puts Liverpool in a strong negotiating position, considering they already know Newcastle have shown interest in two stars, who are unlikely to ever go on and establish themselves as starters in Slot’s side.

All of this hinges on the future of Isak though, with Newcastle unlikely to sanction his exit unless it’s on favourable terms for themselves.

Commenting on the prolific striker, Howe said earlier this season: I love working with Alex and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.

“We’ve got a good relationship and he’s got a good relationship with his team-mates. We’ve tried to help him by moulding our style of play to suit his game. I really respect Erling, obviously, and what he’s done in his career is unbelievable, but we really love Alex.

“You look at Haaland’s consistency over a long period of time and there’s no doubting that and Alex is certainly doing the same. Since he’s come to this club, I think he’s been sensational for us.”
