Wrexham ‘in the hunt’ for Ryan Teague
According to Yahoo News Australia, Wrexham could be set to make history by purchasing their first overseas player in Ryan Teague from Melbourne Victory.
The report claims that Wrexham are ‘in the hunt’ for the midfielder alongside Belgian clubs Gent and KV Mechelen.
The Red Dragons are set to play Teague’s side as part of their pre-season tour down under but it remains to be seen which outfit the 23-year-old will now line up for.
Teague made his Australia debut back in March and has been a key figure for Victory during their domestic season, scoring four goals in 24 appearances.
What Ryan Teague’s manager has said about him
Current Australia manager Tony Popovic was the man to give Teague his first international cap and signed the talented midfielder for Melbourne Victory back in 2023.
As per the A League website, Popovic gave a glowing verdict on Teague, he stated: “Ryan [Teague] is an exciting, young midfielder who has been an important member and leader at youth international level and we believe he can be an influential contributor to the squad this season.”
Teague was first scouted by Jorge Mendes, the agent of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo and spent the beginning of his career in Portugal with Famalicao and SC Covilha.
A defensive midfielder, Teague would provide competition for the likes of Matty James and George Dobson as the heart of Wrexham’s midfield.
Wrexham’s interest in Lewis Travis has cooled and should they pursue a move for the Australian, it would mark a historic moment at the Racecourse Ground.
