Wrexham striker Jay Rodriguez wants to do one thing before he calls time on his playing career.

With the club still firmly in the picture for League One promotion, Wrexham went big in the 2025 January transfer window.

Sam Smith arrived in a record deal, while Jay Rodriguez was signed on a free transfer from Burnley.

Rodriguez became Wrexham’s highest-paid player, earning £15,000-a-week, and was thrust instantly into the starting line-up.

He and Smith finished out the 2024/25 season as Phil Parkinson’s front two as the club won promotion up to the Championship.

Now, Rodriguez’s ambitions for the campaigns ahead have been shared.

Season 4 Episode 7 of Welcome to Wrexham aired in the UK on June 20.

During the episode, there was a focus on Rodriguez and his struggles to get his first Wrexham goal.

The 35-year-old eventually got off the mark after 10 games without finding the back of the net, scoring in a 1-0 win over Stockport County.

During the episode, Rodriguez expressed his desire to play in the Premier League once more and his hope that it’ll be with Wrexham.

He said: “I’m not giving up hope of making a Premier League appearance again, so let’s hope it’s with Wrexham.”

Ryan Reynolds discussed Wrexham reaching the Premier League shortly after the club’s latest promotion.

He said: “In 10 years’ time, the plan is Premier League. Why not? No one has ever done anything great in this world thinking, ‘let’s go halfway’.”

Rodriguez will have been long retired in 10 years, but Rob McElhenney’s comments ahead of 2025/26 suggest Wrexham could be in the top flight long before that.

McElhenney played down ‘consolidation’ for the club ahead of the upcoming campaign, seemingly hinting they will be going for a fourth straight promotion.
