Millwall boss Alex Neil is hoping to welcome back two of his injured players to his matchday squad to face Coventry City.
Midfield duo Luke Cundle and Femi Azeez have had limited game time in recent weeks with attacking midfielder Cundle having been nursing a calf injury suffered in the Lions’ 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic on September 13.
Azeez, meanwhile, has been out since he injured his ankle in training ahead of the match at Sheffield United on August 23, having played only two games so far this term.
The duo were unavailable for Millwall’s away match at Swansea City at the weekend, which ended in a 1-1 draw after goals by Zan Vipotnik and Josh Coburn, but asked for an injury update after the game, and whether the pair have a chance of being involved in his squad on Wednesday night, manager Neil said: “You’re probably looking more at Luke. Potentially Femi, maybe.”
Certainly, even if Azeez does make the cut it’s unlikely that he will start given his lack of game time this term. Cundle, however, who scored the winner in a 1-0 victory at Bramall Lane last month, has played six games in all competitions so far this season, including the first 62 minutes against the Sky Blues in the EFL Cup when the Lions won 2-1 on their own patch.
Frank Lampard, meanwhile, will be without star midfielder Jack Rudoni who is out for an unspecified number of “weeks” with a calf strain, while winger Ephron Mason-Clark remains a doubt, having sat out two games with a hamstring issue.
Two players have, however, returned to fitness with right-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden featuring for the last ten minutes of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Birmingham after recovering from an ankle injury suffered at The Den in the cup. Centre-back Joel Latibeaudiere was also in the matchday squad for the first time this season after recovering from a summer knee injury.
