Rams Fans Rejoice: Beloved Derby Icon Poised for Fairytale Return After Shock Contract Snub!
The latest transfer news from DerbyshireLive as Paul Warne is said to be keen on another former Ram
Former Derby County favourite David McGoldrick could be set for a reunion with the man who worked with him at Pride Park.
That’s according to EFL Analysis who claim the 37-year-old is a target for ex-Rams boss Paul Warne who is now in charge at League Two MK Dons.
Warne arrived at the club in November 2022 just four months after McGoldrick had signed from Sheffield United.
McGoldrick scored a hat-trick in Warne’s first home win and went on to bag 25 in their one season together, a campaign that ended just shy of the play-offs.
McGoldrick dropped into the fourth tier with Notts County as Warne stayed to guide the club back to the Championship the following season. In all Warne spent just over two years with the Rams before leaving in February this year.
However, their paths are set to cross again with journalist Graeme Bailey saying: “They’re not really dark horses, MK Dons; they’re going to be firmly one of the favourites to go and get promoted next season. I think Paul Warne’s a brilliant appointment as manager. MK Dons, I think they’ve been a bit unlucky with some of the appointments in the past, to be fair.
“Paul Warne could get MK Dons to the Championship, in my opinion, if they back him properly and stick with him. So yes, McGoldrick will be the second of a number of very astute signings this summer for them. The second of a few experienced, good signings by MK Dons.”
The first was another former Ram, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing allowed to leave to join up with his former boss. McGoldrick scored 17 times in 35 appearances as the Magpies reached the League Two play-offs but was unable to agree terms on a new contract to stay at Meadow Lane.
The Rams are looking at adding to their forward line in the transfer window.
