Anton Stach is quickly becoming a cult hero at Leeds United, with his social media presence being one of the crucial aspects of his personality.
The 6’4″ Leeds United midfielder has been impressive on and off the pitch thus far. But it is the off the pitch antics making the headlines regarding Anton Stach the most, even though he scored a stupendous free-kick and claimed an assist at Molineux.
That was particularly ironic after Stach was teasing the Wolves fans that weekend. It’s a risky strategy if Stach makes an error or has a poor game, but it has mostly paid off for him so far since his switch from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.
Stach’s Instagram trend started back with Leeds against AC Milan in pre-season, which was another game in which the midfielder scored a stunning goal. The German could become a fan favourite at the rate he is going.

Stach was also winding Sheffield Wednesday up ahead of Leeds’ EFL Cup game, and it’s fair to say that Leeds fans loved Stach’s pre-Everton post as well.
Stach’s most recent Instagram post was of Bournemouth and him playing the popular app Fruit Ninja, which includes watermelons and cherries being chopped to pieces by the player.
In so many ways, his antics are somewhat reminiscent of an old Leeds cult hero in the Marcelo Bielsa era. Mateusz Klich has been compared with Stach for the similar vibes to his ‘Klich-housery’ from Stach’s online presence so far.
Now, in an interview with the BBC, Stach has revealed the secrets behind it all, stating: “I think I started it when I was at Hoffenheim with my girlfriend. It’s all about her. Because she’s doing it.
“She studies 3D design and management. So, we started it because I thought we have many players and football players who are my friends. Then, I start to see on Instagram with the matchday graphics — it’s all exactly the same.
“And after games. Then, we thought it would be funny to put some edits inside [the images]. It would be funny for my friends and for my family as well. Yeah, you can get creative.
“I thought this was really good and it’s the main reason why I do it. Before the games, sometimes we try to put the nickname of the opponents into it. It’s not so easy every time.
“But sometimes we do it and otherwise she’s just creative in what’s in her mind. And I’m laughing every time.
“We sit around with each other and we talk about it. But most of the time she decides it. Of course, I sometimes have ideas — especially after the games when we get the pictures.
“And I’m looking and like, ‘ah, look, this picture, this would maybe be good’. And she’s doing some crazy stuff inside and then I’m always laughing.”
Anton Stach reflects on his Wolves goal for Leeds
Stach’s Wolves goal marked a momentous Leeds milestone. Even if Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Gabriel Gudmundsson also stood out, Stach was the standout Leeds player at Molineux.
On scoring his first Leeds goal and first goal in English football, he said: “Yeah, it meant a lot to me because it was my first Premier League goal.
“I think it was not the worst goal as well. Then, of course, we took the win. So yeah, it was overall a really nice day for the club, for myself. I hope I can score some more.”
Stach made Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week. In many ways, rightly so, with Stach rated the best Premier League player of the weekend for the fifth matchday of the campaign.
However, Leeds will want to see more goals, more assists, and, certainly, more of his posts on social media with his girlfriend’s creative brain at the heart of them.
