Leon King has accused Russell Martin of blanking him during a “difficult” spell at Rangers.
The defender, 21, is now on loan at Ayr United after barely getting a look in at his parent club and being left behind for the pre-season trip to St George’s Park. he claims he had to find out about his omission from the kitman with no contact from the ex-manager.
It came after Martin started him at centre-back in a friendly against Club Brugge but then bombed him out completely.
King is now enjyoing playing regularly in the Championship under Scott Brown and Steven Whittaker and admits it feels “night and day” in comparison to his struggles at Rangers.
As per the Daily Record, he said: “It’s just night and day to what it’s been the last maybe three, four months. It’s no disrespect to Rangers, they went on the path they went on.
“But it was just difficult when you’re having to wake up every morning to go in and train by yourself, not knowing what’s going to be coming at the end of it. I’d still be in the changing room with the team, eating with the team.
“But it was train by yourself on a different pitch with a different coach and in at different times sometimes from the boys. It was hard because it’s boys you’ve played with for so long, then all of a sudden you’re not with them, they’re wondering what’s happening and you’re wondering.
“And you don’t know what’s happening because nobody at the club spoke to you. I played the Club Brugge game in pre-season and then we were meant to go to St George’s for our pre-season camp.
“It was actually the kitman who told me I wasn’t going, I didn’t have any contact with the manager or coaches so it was pretty difficult to take.
“But again there’s not really anything I could’ve done about that, it was just about keeping level-headed, going in and getting my work done.”
