Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Kai Havertz will be a ‘flop’ at Arsenal and he is someone that ‘wasn’t good enough’ for Chelsea.
The outspoken pundit isn’t impressed with Arsenal’s transfer call to sign the German international, as he suggested that Mikel Arteta has made a big mistake.
Arsenal paid their London rivals, Chelsea, £65 million (Sky Sports) for Kai Havertz, despite his struggles at Stamford Bridge last season, and O’Hara thinks that will continue at the Emirates, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (17/07/23 at 6:30 am).
It’s going to be interesting to see how Arteta uses the versatile forward, who operated as a number nine at Chelsea, but many feel that isn’t his position.
With Granit Xhaka deciding to go back to Germany, it does open the door for someone to start that left-sided number eight role.
Will that be Havertz? Will Martin Odegaard drop back and allow Havertz to play the number ten role? Either way, it’s not convincing O’Hara that this signing is going to work.
“What Kai Havertz? He can’t even hit a barn door,” said O’Hara. “He wasn’t good enough (for Chelsea), so they got rid of him.
“I am telling you now that Kai Havertz will be a flop at Arsenal – Havertz, not so sure. I don’t think it’s going to work out and I don’t think it’s going to fit into their mould.”
Havertz will prove his doubters wrong
The key man here is Arteta. His eye for talent, improving players and getting the best out of those who have previously struggled.
From Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, two young talents, one from England and the other from Brazil. A player like Aaron Ramsdale, who suffered two relegations, yet Arteta trusted him and is now watching him thrive.
Then there is someone like the departed Xhaka, who played his best football under the Spanish coach. Arteta is the key here and he can get the best out of Havertz, no doubt.
