Rangers have interviewed former West Ham United manager Graham Potter as they search for an alternative to Steven Gerrard, according to a report from the Daily Record.
GIVEMESPORT sources reported on Saturday evening that despite almost reaching a full agreement to bring Gerrard back to Ibrox, Rangers were informed that the former boss has rejected the chance to return to the club. The former Liverpool midfielder felt that it wasn’t the right move for him at this stage of his career, despite conversations being positive, although both sides have agreed to leave the door open for the future.
The Gers have had alternative options lined up over the last few weeks, with sources confirming to GIVEMESPORT that Danny Rohl and Kevin Muscat were initial contenders, alongside Gerrard. It’s back to the drawing board for Rangers as they aim to get a new manager through the door at Ibrox during the international break.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Rangers have interviewed former West Ham manager Potter, alongside Rohl. It’s believed that Rohl is the standout candidate at the moment and the favourite to get the job after recent discussions after Gerrard snubbed a fairytale return to Ibrox.
It’s claimed that Potter is unlikely to take on the role as it stands, but it will be interesting to see whether Rangers will be able to convince after being turned down by Gerrard. Potter hasn’t been out of work for too long after being sacked as manager of West Ham just last month. It was a disappointing spell for the 50-year-old manager, with Nuno Espirito Santo replacing him.
It’s a disappointing situation for Rangers after they appeared to be so close to finding a replacement for Russell Martin, who was recently sacked as manager. Gerrard was close to reaching a full agreement to return, but pulled the plug at the last minute, sending Rangers back to square one as they search for a new boss to steer them back in the right direction.
Rangers currently sit in eighth position in the Scottish Premiership table after a dismal start to the 2025/2026 campaign. They are already playing catch-up in the race for the title, with Hearts and Celtic having a comfortable lead over the Gers.
