Ipswich Town and Leicester City are both looking to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Of the two, the Foxes have started better, with one defeat in nine leaving them 3rd. However, ITFC are gathering steam and head into Friday’s clash with Middlesbrough unbeaten in five Championship games.
Neither side will be resting on their laurels though, especially with significant strides left to be made. They’ll be eyeing potential winter transfer window additions early on too, and it seems the relegated duo could go toe-to-toe for one man.
According to a report from French news outlet Foot Mercato, both Ipswich Town and Leicester City are interested in Stade Rennais midfielder Glen Kamara.
The 70-time Finland international has struggled to make an impact in Ligue 1 since joining from Leeds United in 2024. So much so, Kamara has not played a single minute this season, appearing in only two matchday squads out of seven.
Stade Rennais spent €10m on him, but now hope to recover only €3m of that sum. OGC Nice are also said to be admirers.
Ipswich Town or Leicester City: Where should Glen Kamara go?
Having proven himself in the division with Leeds United it isn’t much of a surprise to see Kamara emerge as a potential target for two top Championship clubs in Ipswich Town and Leicester City.
ITFC are a club in a better position. They’ve convinced players of their huge ambitions, they’ve got a talented manager and good money behind them.
But, in Azor Matusiwa, Jens Cajuste, Marcelino Nunez and Jack Taylor – who has just penned a new deal – they already have a very well-stocked midfielder. Young prospect Cameron Humphreys remains an option too.
At Leicester City, there is Boubakary Soumare, Harry Winks, Hamza Choudhury, Jordan James and Oliver Skipp. Of those though, Soumare is wanted elsewhere and out of contract, Winks’ deal expires in 2026, and James is only on loan.
It means there is certainly more scope for Kamara to go and play regularly for the Foxes than there is at ITFC.
Winter recruitment could make the difference in Championship promotion fight
Ipswich Town’s squad is a more finished article than that of Leicester City. ITFC recruited widely in the summer while the Foxes dealt with financial uncertainty, limiting their spending power.
It will be hoped City are in a better position come January, potentially allowing them to move for the likes of Kamara. A new striker could be required too.
If Cifuentes’ ranks can be added to, Leicester City might just be able to mount a serious promotion push despite the uncertainty that surrounds them.
Kamara would be a shrewd addition, especially if he costs only €3m.
