Former Man Utd coach Kieran McKenna emerges as contender for Celtic job

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is among the candidates for the Celtic job following Brendan Rodgers’ shock departure.

It was announced on Thursday night that Brendan Rodgers had resigned from his role as Celtic manager, leaving the Scottish champions with immediate effect.

Rodgers departs after two successful periods at Celtic Park.

Celtic are in the process of appointing a new permanent manager, with Sky Sports News suggesting that former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna has emerged as a candidate.

McKenna has been linked with multiple jobs after impressing during his time at Ipswich Town; however, he faces stiff competition with former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou linked with the position following his dismissal at Nottingham Forest.

Martin O’Neill has returned to Celtic Park as interim manager, but it is understood that the club are on the lookout for a long-term replacement to fill the void left by Rodgers.

Kieran McKenna’s achievements at Ipswich Town

McKenna’s biggest achievement was guiding Ipswich Town to consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

They suffered relegation to the Championship last season and currently sit 12th in the table, after winning four of their first 12 matches.

McKenna is seen as one of the best up-and-coming coaches in England.
