ALEX Neil admitted Millwall’s 2-2 draw with Oxford United felt like a defeat after Przemys?aw P?acheta scored a last-minute equaliser to rescue a point for the U’s.
The Lions took the lead early in the first half through Thierno Ballo’s first goal for the club, but were without talisman Femi Azeez for most of the game after he suffered a hamstring injury in the 35th minute.
Oxford then took the initiative in the match and scored an equaliser on the cusp of half-time when Cameron Brannagan struck from distance.
Alex Neil made a double change on the hour mark, bringing on Aidomo Emakhu and Billy Mitchell for Derek Mazou-Sacko and Luke Cundle, and shortly after Jake Cooper restored Millwall’s lead when he reacted first to tap in Tristan Crama’s saved shot.
Neil’s side looked comfortable for the majority of the second half, and looked to have done enough for a win before Placheta scored with practically the last kick of the game to deny the Lions their fifth win in a row.
Neil thought his side deserved all three points.
“It’s a bit of a sickener for us because I thought we deserved to win,” Neil said. “Football is one of those games that if you don’t play well and you get a point, you go away quite content in the fact that you have a point on the board, let’s move onto the next one.
“We did more than enough to win the game. We were the most attacking side. We controlled a lot of the game. We started well, and then the elements sort of turned in the first half.
“The wind picked up, the rain picked up, and they penned us in a little bit. Scored a really good goal. Cut back, boy puts it in the top corner. The start of the second half was a little bit sluggish.
