Ipswich Town have some top quality attacking players at their disposal in players like Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene. ITFC are eyeing promotion back to the Premier League from the Championship this season.
The Tractor Boys are currently sat in 7th place in the table after their first 14 fixtures. They are only outside the play-offs by two points behind Hull City and Millwall.
Kieran McKenna’s side won 4-1 away at Ipswich Town last time out before the international break. Clarke and Ivan Azon got their goals against the Swans in South Wales, whilst former player Cameron Burgess scored two own goals.
Speaking on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on YouTube, Maxwell has delivered his verdict on their strength in depth: “Jack Clarke comes in, picks up the ball, drives in from the left and finds the bottom corner from 20 yards. Fantastic goal. It’s a bit unfair that Ipswich have Clarke and (Jaden) Philogene. They’ve played a combined 1044 minutes this season, that equates to almost exactly 16 matches and they’ve scored 12 goals between them from the left side of the attack.”
Ipswich Town latest regarding Jack Clarke
Ipswich Town signed Clarke back in August 2024 after they went up to the top flight. He is under contract with ITFC until 2029.
The attacker has since made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys and has scored nine goals, six of which have come this season. Prior to his switch to Suffolk, he was a key player for Sunderland.
Clarke spent three-and-a-half years at the Stadium of Light and was one of their most prized assets. He fired 27 goals in 94 outings during his days with the Black Cats.
The York-born man rose up through Leeds United’s academy before Tottenham Hotspur snapped him up as a youngster in 2019. Spurs then loaned him out to the likes of QPR and Stoke City in the second tier to help him get some experience under his belt.
What next for Ipswich Town?
Ipswich Town are back in action on Saturday 22nd November with a home clash against Wrexham. ITFC will be eager to build on their victory over Swansea City and keep their momentum going as they look to rise into the top six.
They then face back-to-back away trips to Hull City and Oxford United to see off the rest of November. The matches then start coming thick and fast this winter during the festive period.
The Tractor Boys were relegated earlier this year and finished in the bottom three along with Leicester City and Southampton. It has taken them a while to adapt to life back in the Football League but they seem to be finding their feet more.
As Maxwell alluded to, they have some serious quality with players like Clarke and Philogene. McKenna faces selection headaches every weekend as he looks to strike the right balance with his starting XI.
