ALEX Neil hopes Millwall’s dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton will give them momentum as they head into a busy December.
The sides were tied at 2-2 heading into stoppage-time after Finn Azaz pulled one back for the Saints in the 87th minute.
The Lions pushed for a late goal and found the winner when Tristan Crama volleyed in Thierno Ballo’s chipped cross at the back post with almost the last kick of the game.
The Den erupted into bedlam, with Neil sprinting down the touchline to join his players’ celebrations.
“It’s the best way to win a game,” Neil said after the game. “When we conceded the last-minute equaliser at Oxford, that hampered us probably for the next couple of games. Whereas, hopefully today will be a springboard to give us an opportunity to go and try and get a few more points on the board.”
Neil expanded on why he thought it was the best way to win.
“The feeling that it leaves you with afterwards,” Neil said. “I hark back to the Oxford game because that felt like a defeat, although it was a draw.
“When you do win in the manner in which we did today, I think it’s great for the players to get that euphoria with a last-minute winner. It’s brilliant for the fans. They’ll now get carried away, and we’re going to win the league by ten points and all that sort of stuff. That’s just part and parcel of football. That’s why we love it.
“We go to games to be entertained and to watch games like that – that finish that way.”
