    Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Ipswich Town: Valerien Ismael slams referee

    Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael launched an attack on the standard of Championship referees after his side’s 1-1 home draw with Ipswich Town.

    The Frenchman slammed referee Oliver Langford’s decision not to send off Azor Matusiwa just before half-time, for a last man foul on Ryoya Morishita, as ‘disgraceful’.

    And, armed with a piece of paper, he reeled off a list of decisions that have gone against Rovers this season.

    “I am heartbroken for the boys,” said Ismael.

    “We should be talking about three points, enjoying the connection with the fans, but tonight I can’t not talk about the referee.

    “Now, enough is enough. We have written a list of all the decisions against us this season. The (non) red card is a disgrace. It’s terrible. I can’t accept that.

    “It’s a penalty on Yuki (Ohashi) and the last situation should be a corner for us again. The standard from the referee in the Championship is terrible.

    “Teams fighting to get promoted invest a lot of money to play nice football. Every game, every three days, it’s always the same. The standard is really, really poor.

    “It is unacceptable when I see the list of all this bad decision-making against us. I accept it can happen, one or two decisions. But that one with the red card is obvious.

    “Maybe it’s because it’s a former Premier League club and they wanted to help them. Nobody can understand. It’s a terrible decision and I have to talk about it. It’s disgraceful to see that type of performance.

    “Nobody can understand and follow the decision-making from the referee.”

    Referring to his list, Ismael said: “No penalty at West Brom, Gudjohnsen at Watford. Charlton handball, no penalty. Swansea, no penalty. Preston, no red card on Whiteman. No penalty on Pape (Gueye). Wrexham, no foul by Hedges. Ipswich, clear red card and a penalty on Yuki.

    “It’s as simple as that, they have to do their job. It is too much. If you get 10% of that, it’s maybe four points for us. Enough is enough

    “We have to talk but they say the same after the game. ‘I didn’t see anything’ or ‘Sorry I made a mistake’. What we want is to raise the standard and the quality on the pitch.

    “We have to perform. The manager, players, everyone at the club. The referee must perform now because it can’t stay like this. The red card today, enough is enough.”
