Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that the injury to midfielder Thomas Partey ‘doesn’t look good’ as he faces a another absence.

Mikel Arteta is now expecting to be without Thomas Partey for ‘weeks’ after an injury suffered in Arsenal training.

Arteta was speaking to Football London after seeing his Arsenal side beat Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners fell behind to Marcus Rashford’s opener but quickly responded through Martin Odegaard.

It took a while but Arsenal did find the win with Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus scoring late on to send the Emirates Stadium wild.

Arsenal fans are probably still in a state of euphoria as they wake up on this Monday morning but it’s not all good news.

Midfielder Thomas Partey missed Sunday’s game with United having picked up an injury in the last few days.

The Ghanaian FA confirmed Partey’s injury over the weekend and, sure enough, he missed the clash with United.

Arteta was asked about the injury on Sunday and confirmed that ‘it doesn’t look good’ for Partey, who is expected to be out ‘for weeks’.

“I don’t know. Unfortunately, he got injured in training. It doesn’t look good. I believe he’ll be out for weeks,” said Arteta.

Kai Havertz experiment likely to continue amid Thomas Partey injury blow

Arteta reverted to his usual back four on Sunday as he lined up with Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Oleksandr Zinchenko all started.

Arsenal have been fielding some strange defensive setups of late, including Partey at right back.

Maybe Partey’s injury forced that change but if Arteta was going back to that anyway, we may have seen Partey in holding midfield

That would have pushed Declan Rice further forward and potentially demoted Kai Havertz to the bench.

We have to be honest here; it just isn’t working for Havertz at Arsenal right now.

Fans were already getting on his back a little before a terrible miss and giving away possession for Rashford’s goal on Sunday.

Partey being out now means Rice is likely to continue in holding midfield and Arteta will persist with Havertz moving forward in the hope of him clicking into form soon enough.
