Arsenal news – Kai Havertz has sent a clear message to Mikel Arteta ahead of the Gunners’ return to Premier League action against Everton amid a big verdict on the German star from Gary Lineker

Kai Havertz has endured a difficult start to life at Arsenal but his latest message to Mikel Arteta shows he is ready for the challenge ahead with the backing of Gary Lineker. After playing in a variety of attacking roles while at Chelsea, Arteta has brought Havertz in to fill the void left by Granit Xhaka and become part of his midfield three.

Declan Rice, David Raya and Jurrien Timber joined Havertz as summer arrivals with Arsenal parting ways with over £200million to welcome four key players in anticipation of their Champions League return. Both Rice and Havertz have been frequent starters, with Timber suffering an early injury and Aaron Ramsdale preferred to Raya, although he and Rice have experienced very different starts to their careers in north London.

While Rice capped off a great first few weeks with the decisive goal in the 3-1 against Manchester United, Havertz has been criticised for his displays with Arteta facing frequent questions about why he is being played.

However, with the international break arriving, the 24-year-old had the chance to focus on other things and try to get his form back, but that did not quite go to plan.

Last week, coming up against team-mate and Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu, Havertz struggled to get into the game with Germany losing 4-1, which saw national team manager Hansi Flick sacked.

A few days later, with Rudi Voller in temporary charge, Havertz was named on the bench to face France in a friendly, but he came on in the second half and set up Leroy Sane to score Germany’s second goal.

Following the two games, Havertz took to social media to reflect on a difficult week before making a big claim about his return to Arsenal. On Instagram, he said: “Good end to a difficult week for the team! Back to London for a big month ahead with @arsenal!”

While Havertz has struggled, the former Chelsea man has received the backing of Gary Lineker when the former Premier League striker was asked to rank him, Anthony Martial and Richarlison.

Speaking on the No Ratings Podcast, he said: “I don’t think at the minute you can judge any Chelsea player on last season’s performances, the club was in turmoil, it was a mess, it was a shambles, they all underperformed. I think there’s something in Havertz, and what gives it to me is he scored a winning goal in a Champions League final, he did that.

“The others at the moment have underachieved a bit. Martial has the talent but I don’t know if he’s a bit soft mentally or unlucky with injuries. I would personally put Havertz first, then either or, maybe Martial, because he has a record, and Richarlison still has it to do, although I think he’s capable.”
